A Day in Guam

You know it's NOT Truk when the roads are paved and painted.

You know it's NOT Truk when they're flying the Guamanian flag.

You know it's NOT Truk when the fish market is actually a decent, well-built building. And it says "GUAM Fresh Fish".

In Guam they have jackfruit, which you don't cook in order to eat.

In Guam, they have pastries like Green Tea Rolls.

It's definitely Guam when Oclima's is right across the street. Well, it used to be called Oclima's. And it used to be a one-story tin roofed building with a convenient store and a laundromat.

And that's Mama T's and Papa V's house, right next door to Cousin Ain's house.

Aleeeeeeex!

Arlyyyyyyyn!

Arlyn's kids, playing shy at first.

But then they break out of their shells as if we'd known each other their whole lives.
When in fact, this is the first time I met Arlyn's little girl, and the second time I met her boy.

The family home just isn't the same with out the menagerie of animals. Calicos.

Semi-calicos.

Whites.

Tabbies.

What the...?

Is that a dog?

No. This is a dog. This is Hurry. As in "hurry up!" Mama T named her.

Ah, that furry fat thing was Kitty. Tita M's cat. She's shy at first, but then comes around. On her terms though. Now she loves me.

Now she hides.

Ah, just another day in Guam.
